To keep koi carp you need to have a pond with constant circulation and cleaning, it also helps if you have air stones or a water pump so the carp can get enough oxygen.
You can keep koi in a fresh water fish tank but oviously they wont grow as big and it is better for the fish if you keep them in a pond so they have room to move around.
You can also buy UV lights that you can filter the water with to remove harmful bacteria.
Koi only need to be fed during the summer and spring months as during the winter months the carp slow down and sleep so they dont use to much energy. If the pond freezes you shouldn't break the ice as it can shock the fish and they could die.
To make sure the oxygen levals are good you should also buy a golden orf because if it dies you need more air stones as golden orfs need more oxygen than koi so if it stays alive there is enough oxygen.
the food koi eat are pellets which can cost anything form £10-£60 depending on the quality so we recomend to go for the middle range.
